Natalie Nicole Gilbert . . .

...return to the scene of the crime

When you ask 20-something Natalie Nicole Gilbert what she does for a living, she nearly always has to stop and consider what title to offer first, and it's no wonder.

Each morning at 5:30am, she wakes to do her morning radio show on 94.7 FM / AM 900 WFIA the Spirit, followed by her midday shift on 105.9 FM the River.  Once she's left the radio station, she heads home to her own voiceover studio where she cuts voiceovers for TV and radio commercials nationwide.  Many afternoons find her in other recording studios doing voiceovers for on-site advertising clients or session singing, or perhaps acting for the latest independent film.  By evening she's either teaching acting or pausing for a Latte at her beloved Starbucks.  Did we mention she also songwrites, dances, plays piano and guitar, ice skates, draws and has published poetry and short stories?

Born in Lexington, KY to a professional pianist and broadcast engineer, Gilbert began singing and dancing at the age of 4, performing publicly in malls and on local TV shows.  Her love for theatre was initiated in the second grade when her school put on a production of "The Bible Tells Me So Show", written by Kathie Hill.  The performer cast as the Choir Leader was late in showing for the performance and those in charge knew that Gilbert (initially cast in a simple role in the children's choir) was an unintentional understudy who'd learned the singing parts for every principal role, so they quickly changed her into the Choir Leader's costume just before the show began.  However, it wasn't until Natalie Nicole landed the leading role of Maria in 'West Side Story' in her school's 6th grade rendition of the musical that the acting spark truly lit and she was enrolled in Walden Theatre to further pursue acting at the age of 12.

Gilbert's artistic education continued as a student at the Youth Performing Arts School in Louisville where she majored in Theatre and Dance.  With the exception of singing a bit of German as a Blue Bird Girl in Carnival her sophomore year, Gilbert put singing on the back burner, songwriting privately and giving cassette recordings of her creations to a number of friends.

When she was 16, Natalie Nicole lost her brother in a tragic Cherokee Triangle shooting.  She pulled together with songwriting pals from her brother's band (including Tim Flaherty of Hot Action Cop fame) and stepped into the studio to record "Torn by Fate".  The tune received some local airplay, as did "Stop the Violence and Start Respect", a hip-hop tune co-written with other teens from Youth for Peace.  In 1994, Gilbert was recognized by Noxzema and Teen Magazine for her anti-violence work, taking home a Noxzema Extraordinary Teen Award trophy as one of 10 teen finalists selected from hundreds of thousands for making a difference in their communities.

Once out of high school Gilbert began her radio career by taking a part-time on-air position at 88.5 WJIE in Louisville, Kentucky.  The role quickly blossomed into a morning newswoman position with Jerry Williams and the Wake Up Crew.  As the crew was dismantled, she took an Evening Host position and took on the title of Public Service Announcement Director.  By 1998 she was doing the morning shift again as Morning Show Co-Host for Mike at the Mic in the Morning on 101QFL in Rockford, Illinois.  Through the years her voice has also been heard playing disc-jockey or news reporter on Oldies 103 WRKA, Lite 106.9, and 1350 AM WLOU.  Natalie Nicole's voice can be heard on a plethora of TV and radio spots nationwide, including McDonald's, Cadillac, Quizno's and Sara Lee.

As time has passed, Natalie Nicole no longer kept her singing and songwriting gifts to herself; she's the principal vocalist on Scarlet Dakota's 2004 release 'September Fields', as well as French TV's 'Pardon Our French', among others.  Her own releases include 'Unfolding Prayers', 'The Last 24 Hours' and the 'Trilogy: Sampler', as well as a special Christmas collection with the other two Gilbert girls, Ruth (her mother) and Denise (her sister).  The full three CD Trilogy set will release during the winter of 2005/2006.
